Basic Watercolour Painting- with Robyn Eastgate-Manning
$147.00 - $177.00
18 February to 25 March
A six week structured course to equip you with basic watercolour painting skills in a small group. Designed for absolute beginners or those returning after a long break from drawing or painting. Open to anyone 13 plus.
Those who continue with the course after one term will have their basic skills extended and gaps from missed lessons or skills that take time to master addressed again. Each class is unique and lessons are different each term.
Materials Required:
You will need the following paint colours initially and inexpensive sets by Pebeo and Reeves are fine to begin with however previous students have said they wished they had invested in small tubes of better quality paints rather than pans. We recommend good quality paints from Windsor & Newton, Daniel Smith or Schiminke.
- warm red eg cadmium red
- cool red eg alizarin crimson
- warm yellow eg cadmium yellow
- cool yellow eg lemon yellow
- warm blue eg cobalt blue
- cool blue eg ultramarine blue
- burnt umber and Burnt Sienna
Once you have begun to see colours that you like you can move to better quality paint, paper and brushes.
You will also need:
a palette for mixing paint, or a plain white plate works also works well.
Your paper ideally needs to be 300gsm to take lots of water without buckling. A3 size is good and A4 for smaller scale exercises.
1" minimum masking tape to hold it down the paper. We have some boards here to use. Boards need to be put back at the end of the session. We have water jars and hairdryers and table easels on-site.
A set of brushes – a size 12 or 14 round or larger if you have one, a size 6 round, a rigger brush, and a ¾ or 1” flat for the term to keep your initial outlay down, or bring what you already have.
A notebook and pen for notes plus soft 2B pencil, kneadable eraser and sharpener. (A small flat bristle brush is helpful to brush away rubbings when erasing a mistake)
Other mixed media supplies will be available for class use eg oil pastels, charcoal pencils and sharpie fineliners.
