About Andrew James:
I first got into drawing to have a travel sketchbook. I accidentally became obsessed with sketchbooks. 10 years on, drawing has made my life more fun and interesting. I genuinely believe that anyone can learn to paint and draw—life is better when you draw it. |
Topics Covered:
- Folding and making a book, and how to start a sketchbook.
- Drawing objects with shapes in gouache and pen
- Drawing interior scenes on coloured paper with black and grey pen.
- Colour on colour: how to use coloured lines on coloured paper
- Sticker paper: using shapes to start a scene
- Drawing objects with posca markers and using negative space.
- Drawing people with collage.
- One colour on another - shadows and highlights with mixed media.
Materials:
- Coloured paper or card - A4 Size. A variety of colours is great.
- Needle and thread to sew the book.
- Craft knife and straightedge, and cutting matt if you have one.
- Heavier card for the cover of the book - weetbix boxes or old manilla folders work well.
- Bone folder if you have one, or a teaspoon will work otherwise!
- Thick black pen (like a sharpie)
- Thin black pen (like a fineliner)
- Grey marker(I like the double ended faber castells)
- Some kind of fine white pen: posca, jelly roll, uniball signo etc At least three posca markers PC-5M. Exact colours don’t matter but something light, medium and dark are useful. Pick three colours that you like together,
- Plus, bring whatever extra pens and pencils you may have-markers, coloured pencils etc.
- Scissors
- gluestick.
