Meet the Past: Living History & Museum Theatre with Lindsey Maymon
$161.00 - $194.00
14 February to 4 April
8 Week Course
This course is for those aged 16+ with an interest in history, theatre, scriptwriting, or storytelling.
Do you love history, but find yourself bored by names and dates? Do you wish you could grab a coffee with a particular person of the past, and spill the tea on all their famous friends? Do you find yourself ever wondering what you would have done if you’d been in the room where it happened?
Wonder no more! In this workshop, participants will learn about the world of living history, an approach to heritage interpretation that merges research, creative writing, and historical interpretation to give you a front row seat to the real concerns, choices, and consequences of people of the past.
Participants will learn about living history, then choose a historical figure or famous event to interpret from their own point of view. Learn about historical research, try your hand at scriptwriting, and workshop your performance in a supportive, educational, museum theatre environment!
About Lindsey Maymon :
Lindsey is a professional time traveler. She is a historical actor, playwright, public historian, experimental archaeologist, storyteller, and keen historical costumer. She has spent the past ten years discovering how to dress like a Viking, walk like a Tudor, and dance like a Georgian; she has learned how to sing old folk music, how to avoid getting dysentery, and how to tell a good ghost story.
The past is far more wonderful, more awful, more hilarious, more heartbreaking, and more human than we realize. When we uncover the heartbeat of the historical past, we have a chance to better understand ourselves and our moment, and can hope to make better choices than those who have come before.
