A Creative Triathlon Celebrating Seniors Week 2024

Karori Arts and Crafts weaves together creative and social activities to create a lively community. In this spirit, we are hosting “Running with Scissors- a creative triathlon” -an event designed to be engaging, fun, and accessible to seniors.
Experience the joy of Karori Arts& Crafts in this FREE 4 Day Event. Participate in up to 3 events, art, craft, and writing, spread across 3 days, then join us for a humorous awards ceremony and tea on day 4.
Thanks to generous funding from the Rotary Club of Karori, this event is FREE to Seniors.

Running with Scissors - Craft Event
Karori Arts & Crafts Centre
Wednesday, 25 September
10 am to 1 pm
All craft activities are for beginners and seasoned crafters alike!
Find your knitting needles, prepare your crochet hooks, and don your thimbles! 3 simultaneous activities are scheduled for the Craft Event. Will you run with your scissors to join the quilters making quilt blocks, or will you run with your scissors to join the knitters and crocheters making "Nana Squares"?
Because we at Karori Arts like to not only do our own crafting, but also like to give back to the community, quilt blocks made during the Craft Event will be finished into a quilt and donated to charity. Likewise, crocheted and knitted squares will be stitched into a blanket and donated to charity.

Running with Scissors - Art Event

All art activities are for beginners and seasoned artists alike!
Experiment with watercolour and acrylics to make colourful papers. Have fun with graphite making textured rubbings. Then run and grab your scissors, we will be using the colours and textures to create a collaborative, whimsical Garden Collage. Patterns and stencils will be on hand for the creatively reluctant and cheers of encouragement for the creatively bold...everyone is welcome.
The finished Garden Collage will be displayed on the wall of the Karori Library for the community to enjoy.

Running with Scissors - Writing Event

Life is full of fun stories we forget to tell people. In the Writing Event share your story! Use prompts to write a story from a memory, a description, or an event. Turn your story into a folded book perfect for sharing. Start with a template for a folded book, then using everyday tools, embellish your story with lettering, flourishes, and patterns. Help and guidance will be provided every step of the way by Members of Karori Arts & Crafts. Finished story books will be displayed at the Karori Library.

Running with Scissors - Awards Ceremony

Share a morning tea with participants from all 3 events. Humorous Awards will be presented to participants across all 3 events.
